Fresh-Squeezed Florida

Published  March 12, 2010

The Brevard Art Museum in Melbourne, Florida, is currently hosting the exhibition Navel Gazing: Artists' Visions of Florida, a juried show of sixteen contemporary artists who offer fresh interpretations of the Sunshine State. Eight "insiders" (i.e. artists from Florida) go head to head with eight "outsiders" (artists from other states) on interlocking themes of tourism, amusement parks, eternal youth, and endangered landscapes. Included in the show are works by Carolina Cleere, who grew up in the Panhandle, exploring bayous that today are "no longer safe for swimming because of excessive pollution."
